Living with a dog isn't always easy

You took them to puppy classes, and everything seemed to be going well. But as they’ve grown, their behaviour has changed from cute and funny to frustrating and even a little worrying.

You love them and want to help, but with so much conflicting advice out there, it’s hard to know what’s best. All you want is for life with your dog to feel easier.

No more walking at odd hours to avoid your dog’s triggers. No more avoiding visitors. No more stress and worry, wouldn’t that be nice? Right now, that might seem impossible, but with the right help and support, life with your dog can be so much easier.

That's why I created the 'Beyond Behaviour Programme', a holistic and effective behaviour programme to help owners understand the root cause(s) of their dogs behaviour and achieve lasting change through tailored 1:1 training.

Qualified Dog Behaviourist

CASE STUDY

Bentley, the anxious Belgian Malinois

When I started working with Bentley, he was struggling with multiple aspects of day to day life;

  • Very anxious around other dogs after being attacked.

  • Struggling to settle around visitors

  • Pulling on the lead

  • Nervous around traffic

  • Struggles with impulsivity & frustration

Over 4 months, we were able to reduce Bentley's anxiety and give him specific skills to cope with being around traffic.  We used Tywin to help him adjust to being around other dogs and created a predictable routine for visitors.

"I would like to thank Anthony for helping me and my dog Bentley. He's not stressed, more relaxed and happier."

How to calm an anxious dog

Why choose me?

Not only am I an experienced dog behaviourist but I also have first had experience of life with an anxious dog.

Tywin was a Belgian Shepherd, who we rescued at 5 months of age.  Sadly, he hadn't had a nice start in life, which made him very nervous and a chronic injury, that amplified everything.

Fortunately, we were able to work through everything and he became my work dog, helping other dogs overcome their issues.

This experience showed me just how important a holistic approach to resolving dog behavioural issues is and how stressful life with an anxious dog can be.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A dog trainer's role is to teach a dog new skills (walking nicely on the lead, coming back when called etc.) - think of them like a teacher.

A dog behaviourists role is to uncover and understand the root causes of behaviour and help owners address these causes.  They will deal with complex behaviours such as aggression, fear, anxiety etc. - think of them like a psychologist.

  • This is not uncommon.  When getting in touch, choose the issue that is of the most importance to you.  During our call, we will discuss every behaviour we need help with.

  • I specialise in working with aggressive, anxious, fearful and reactive dogs.

  • Nope.

Whilst in some situations it is possible to improve things in a short period of time, I focus on achieving long lasting behaviour changes and addressing the underlying issues behind the behaviours.

  • I would describe my approach as force-free and holistic.

Instead of trying to stop the unwanted behaviours, I take the time to identify the root causes of a dog’s behaviour and implement specific changes to address them.  When it comes to training, I only use force-free training methods which means I DO NOT use methods that cause fear or pain.
