Whether it be aggression towards people, excessive barking, lunging at other dogs or a high prey drive. These challenges can leave you scared of your dog and missing your old life.
What makes training a rescue dog more challenging than a non-rescue dog, is usually their history.
Have they come from a previous home where they neglected and abused? Or are they an overseas rescue dog with an unknown history and need help adjusting to a new country & its new rules?
Using old school and aversive training methods on your rescue dog will usually make the problem worse.
What you need is help from someone who understands the uniqueness of your rescue dog.
The unique challenges that come with rescue dogs require specific knowledge and approach. That is why in 2022, I became a ‘Romanian Rescue Pro Trainer’ with Meesh Masters. This course gave me the opportunity to learn about the unique challenges that rescue dogs bring and how to resolve them.
That is why I offer tailored,1 to 1 training & behaviour programs for owners of rescue dogs.
The key to achieving long-term behaviour change with your rescue dog is to understand the reasons for their behaviour. It will not be dominance, leadership, stubbornness & being alpha, it will be fear, anxiety, frustration, or aggression.
When working with me, you are committing to training your rescue dog using ethical, positive reinforcement training techniques with a focus on achieving long-lasting behaviour change. That means we will not use training tools such as shock collars, corrective spray, force, or fear.
If you are willing to make a long-term commitment to your rescue dog, I’d love to hear from you.
As a thank you for becoming a dog rescuer, you will receive a special discount on all my 1 to 1 dog training & behaviour training programs.
Clara & Lola | Mixed Breed Rescue
Lola's gone from a timid dog who wouldn't go into the garden, let alone a walk, to a happy confident (but still wary!) dog with lots of friends and a great relationship with one of the cats - still working on the other one!"
Would highly recommend Buttons & Leash!
Training sessions can be booked at a time to suit you via our online booking system & our own app.
1 to 1 dog training allows you to receive advice and training that is tailored to you and your dog!
Working 1 to 1 with a dog trainer, means you will get my undivided attention and support during your sessions.
Right away! All training will begin indoors, so there is no need to wait for your puppy's vaccinations to be completed before you start training.
The first session is 1 & 1/2 hours long. The follow up sessions are 1 hour long.
I only use positive reinforcement & science led techniques. This means that the methods you'll learn will NOT cause your puppy pain, fear or harm. These methods focus on long-term behaviour change, helping you transform your naughty puppy into a well-behaved adult.
You'll have the ability to book additional sessions, via our online booking service. These sessions will be at the default rate of £75 per session. These additional sessions can be paid in instalments.
At first the sessions take place at your home or a quiet location. This is crucial to making sure your puppy understands what's required of them. We will then progress to more distracting environments over time.
Simply put, what works for one owner might not work for the next one. The same applies to dogs too! Bespoke training will take your puppy individualism (personality, breed & temperament) into account, along with your wants, environment and learning style.
I'd love to hear from you.
